Keep Your Child Safe this Holiday Season
Keep your child safe this holiday season. Between the kids' schedule, planning holiday events, chores, and work, there's often very little time to think about anything else. However, it's important to make time to take precautionary measures on your child's safety by getting a Child ID Kit, or creating a Safety Plan with the advice of your local authority. So be prepared and put your mind at ease during the holiday season.

Color War... coming up this week 4
A tradition at many summer and sleep-away camps, Color War at Blue Dolphin Summer Camp is truly unique experience!
Color War is not really a war. It is actually three days of ridiculous FUN! The entire camp is split into teams, which follow a different theme every year. In past year's we've done pairings like Coke vs. Pepsi; Love vs. Money; Disney vs. Warner Brothers; Planes vs. Trains vs. Automobiles and many others. If a program doesn't pose safety risks (like pool safety or fishing), it's going to be very silly and designed to make kids laugh...Color War is no exception!
Color War breakout has become an event in itself. While the three days of Color War are, themselves, scheduled (so people can plan vacations accordingly), how Color War will break is anyone's guess!
The two teams are led by staff members who are selected as Captains - their identities only known to a handful of people before their names, too, are broken to the whole Camp. These staff members (1 Head Captain and 3 Captains) take on a great responsibility over these 3 Camp days and have the trust of the Head Staff to lead the teams in a fun, responsible competition.
Signs, posters, streamers, and so much more fill the Camp from top to bottom, inside and out. Our Lunch Room, blanketed in signs and streamers for those 3 days, becomes the center of this transformation!
In the end, even after 3 days of fun competition (water races, obstacle courses, etc.) we remind our campers that the teams are not at War.
On that third and final day, both teams come together after Lunch to sing a joint song (usually a tearjerker about Camp coming to an end) and the Camp unites for the last few weeks of summer.
What will this summer's theme be? Who knows!

11 Sites and Apps Kids Are Heading to After Facebook
Remember MySpace? Not so long ago, practically every teen in the world was on it –- and then many left for Facebook. Now, as Facebook's popularity among teens is starting to wane, you might be wondering what the new "it" social network is. But the days of a one-stop shop for all social networking needs are over. Instead, teens are dividing their attention between an array of apps and tools that let them write, share, video chat, and even shop for the latest trends.
You don't need to know the ins and outs of every app and site that's "hot" right now (and frankly, if you did, they wouldn't be trendy anymore). But knowing the basics -- what they are, why they're popular, and the problems that can crop up when they're not used responsibly -- can make the difference between a positive and negative experience for your kid.

Kids Going Outside
There’s a fun article that we came across in the New Yorker Magazine that lists the “features” of “going outside.” It’s by Ellis Weiner and is entitled “Just in Time for Spring” (here’s a summary) In the tradition of a radio commercial for a new product, the article suggests that “going outside” is an “astounding multipurpose activity platform that will revolutionize the way you spend your time.” Of course the humor here is that going outside is not new at all; though, it has been too often forgotten as we spend more of our day interacting with electronic media and filtering our experience through technology.

Amazing Kids!
"Inspiration leads to Aspiration"
Today, instead of
interpreting statistics on how culture is disabling teens from growing up, I’ve
chosen to remind you of a handful of students who “get it” and are already
using their time and talent for redemptive purposes. They’ve added value
to the world around them. They’re contributors, not mere consumers. Be
encouraged.

Why Camp is Great for Children
If you’ve been to camp, you’re not surprised when you hear about the benefits of summer camp. Experiencing life at camp yourself as a child, you know the profound positive effects that still matter to you as an adult, and you also know that you want the same thing for your own kids.
But if you didn’t go to camp as a child, you may not realize just how good the experience is for children. You may not know why so many parents are committed to sending their kids to camp. So while we have talked about most of these before, here is a list of the most important reasons to send your kids to camp.
